Sora Back Home Part 7

The faint light of the morning sun seeped through the blinds, subtle chirping of birds echoing outside the windows. Kairi lay peacefully on the couch, curled up and covered under the blanket given to her the night before. Sora's head lay slack in the chair, his faint snoring the only noise filling the still air.

That is, until the soft hum and then rattle of Kairi's vibrating phone went off on the wooden side table.

Sora sprang up out of his chair and stood in defense; knees slightly bent and hands ready to grip his keyblade, but it refused to materialize. He stared at his bare palms, confused, until he took in his surroundings.

Chill out, Sora. He sighed in relief, finally noticing the vibrating cell phone. No more heartless.

He rubbed his eyes with the heel of his palm as he walked over and flipped open the phone, wondering how Kairi knew to set an alarm. He looked at the screen, expecting to find the time, but instead read a text message.

Hey babe. How's about a date tonight? Meet you at the island after school (; ~ Wakka

He quickly snapped the phone shut and set it back on the table, ashamed of himself. He hadn't meant to snoop.

But a date… With Wakka?

Sora glanced over at Kairi's sleeping form, and sighed. Maybe a lot more has changed since I've been gone than I thought.

He walked over to the kitchen and looked in one of the cupboards. I wonder if she even still likes waffles…

After a rather embarrassed awakening on Kairi's part and a delicious breakfast on both, the pair hurriedly attempted to get ready for the day. Kairi managed to smooth out most of the wrinkles in her school uniform; she didn't want anybody to get the wrong idea, and brushed her teeth with a spare tooth brush Sora found in the guest bathroom. Sora skipped his morning shower; he didn't want to make Kairi feel uncomfortable, but instead went heavy on the deodorant and cologne.

They both ran out the door, backpacks in hands, hoping not to be late their second day of school. It wasn't long until the rest of the gang was sighted leaning against the outer gates of the grounds.

"Hey guys…" Roxas said timidly at Sora and Kairi; both leaning over grabbing their legs trying to catch their breath.

"We were just talking about going to the island after school!" Namine interjected. "You guys want to come?"

Sora straightened up immediately. "The island?"

"That sounds great!" Kairi replied with enthusiasm before the bell rang.

"Alright. See you guys after school." Said Riku as he lazily slung his backpack over one of his shoulders, obviously not in a hurry to get to class.

"Okay. Bye guys. Bye Sora!" Kairi waved with a smile.

Sora halfheartedly waved back. "Yeah. Okay. Bye.."
